France labels Homs mosque blast as targeted attack on Syrian stability
In comments attributed to the Foreign Ministry, officials said:
"France condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack carried out today at the Imam Ali Mosque in Homs, which reportedly killed at least eight worshippers. This abhorrent terrorist act, like the one that targeted the Mar Elias Church in Damascus last June, is part of a deliberate strategy aimed at destabilizing Syria and the transitional authorities."
The statement added that such attacks seek to instill fear and derail efforts currently underway to rebuild peace and security in a nation described as unified and diverse. France, according to the statement, criticized actions intended to “spread terror and undermine ongoing efforts” to establish long-term stability.
Officials further emphasized:
"France reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combating all forms of violent extremism and its action against terrorism in Syria alongside its partners in the International Coalition against Daesh, as well as its support for the continuation of the political transition."
Earlier reports indicated that at least eight people were killed and 18 others injured when the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque, located on Al-Khodari Street in the Wadi al-Dhahab district of Homs, was struck.
The attack comes as Syria’s new governing authorities work to strengthen security across the country and pursue figures linked to the former ruling system, which has been accused of fueling instability.
Bashar al-Assad, who governed Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia, bringing an end to the Baath Party’s decades-long rule that began in 1963. A transitional government led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was established in January to oversee the next phase of the country’s political transition.
