Over 890 Arrested in France Amid PSG Celebrations Violence

(MENAFN) More than 890 people were taken into custody across France after festivities marking Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory over Arsenal descended into widespread violence over the weekend, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced Monday.

Speaking to France Inter, Nunez confirmed that authorities carried out over 890 arrests nationwide across the two-day period, according to a broadcaster. He noted the figure represented a surge of more than 45% compared with the same period the previous year — a stark indicator of the scale of disorder that accompanied the celebrations.

Nunez further revealed that 178 police officers and gendarmes sustained injuries amid the unrest, underscoring the intensity of clashes that erupted in the wake of PSG's continental triumph.

Of those detained, 312 were subsequently placed in formal police custody, according to the broadcaster.
