Trump to Meet Middle East Leaders on Sidelines of G7 Summit in France

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump is expected to meet several Middle Eastern leaders next week on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, according to US officials on Saturday.

The officials said Trump will hold separate bilateral meetings with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt during the summit. Additional meetings are also planned with the leaders of France and India, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not expected to participate in these discussions, they added.

According to the officials, the US administration believes it has reached what it considers a strong framework agreement and noted that G7 member states have various tools available to support implementation once progress on an agreement with Iran moves forward.

The officials also indicated that discussions could take place in Switzerland after the G7 involving US and Iranian representatives at a higher level, though no final details were confirmed.

In related remarks, they said that as Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz without imposing tolls, the United States would lift its blockade and take part in demining operations in the area.

The G7 summit will bring together leaders from the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Japan, and the European Union. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of global issues, including trade, critical mineral supply chains, artificial intelligence, and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
